Judge Web site accessibility and quality

The template used by this Web site was tested against key accessibility guidelines. It passed the following accessibility tests:

  The template met the criteria for Priorities 1, 2, and 3.

  The site displayed successfully for users with the three main types of colour blindness:
  (a) deuteranope (a form of red/green colour deficit);
  (b) protanope (another form of red/green colour deficit);
  (c) tritanope (a blue/yellow deficit, which is very rare).

The design of the site was also influenced by the following guidelines:

• Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) clear print guidelines (http://www.rnib.org.uk/xpedio/groups/public/documents/PublicWebsite/public_seeitright.hcsp) [Opens in new browser window]
  RNIB is the leading UK charity offering practical support and advice to anyone with a sight problem;
  
  
• Dyslexia Style Guide from the British Dyslexia Association (http://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/extra352.html) [Opens in new browser window].

The site was tested on range of browsers including, Internet Explorer 5.50, Internet Explorer 6.0; Netscape 4.7, and Mozilla 1.3. It was also tested on different screen sizes, including 800 x 600 pixels and 1152 x 864 pixels.

The guidelines were tested using the reading level statistics available with the Microsoft Word 2000 program. The Flesch Reading Ease score recommends a result between 60 to 70. The Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level score recommends a result between 7.0 to 8.0.

'Judge: web sites for health' was selected by OMNI: Organising Medical Networked Information for inclusion in the OMNI database. OMNI is the UK gateway to quality biomedical and health information on the Internet, maintaining a searchable directory of reviews and links to quality Internet-accessible resources. OMNI also provides access to several more focused biomedical resource databases, as well as services such as training and Continuing Medical Education.
